Academic profile

M.Sc. (Biotechnology), Ph.D (Plant Pathology)

Research Experience / Expertise

More than 10 years of research experience in the area of Plant Science especially in spices, tea, sugarcane and medicinal plants:

Started research career with biotechnological studies on tea blister blight disease, followed by work on identification and characterization of differentially expressed genes/proteins involved in sugarcane- red rot pathogen interaction. As part of my work I have gained expertise on PCR, DNA profiling, primer designing, reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR), reverse northern blotting, gene cloning, transformation, Autoradiography techniques, Differential Display-RT-PCR (DD-RT-PCR), RACE-PCR for the Isolation of full length plant genes, western blotting, ELISA techniques, biochemical analysis of enzymes, plant proteomics/ two dimensional gel electrophoresis. Have experience in Intellectual Property Rights, Management and Technology Transfer/ Commercialization of Agricultural Technology etc.

The present area of work includes DNA profiling of medicinal plants for identification of genetic variability and identification of adulterating plants used in Ayurvedic medicine manufacture. DNA barcoding in Ayurvedic medicinal plants is an important research area being explored due to its reliability in identification of botanicals.
